Be a Time and The – ! contributor

Time and The – !

Time and The – ! is looking for three or four regular contributors to submit reviews, essays, general blog posts, and other media related to Doctor Who and its spin-offs to ensure a continuous flow of posts and act as ambassadors of our Web site.  We’re looking for new and old fans alike who are passionate about Doctor Who and who keep up what’s going on with the show.  Familiarity using WordPress is helpful, but in no way required.

We’re also looking for contributors for Standard by Seven, an upcoming Blake’s 7 blog and fan site. The guidelines are more or less the same, except the focus will be on Blake’s 7.  If you’re interested, please choose the Standard by Seven option in the form below, and we’ll contact you when we’re ready for contributors.

Contributors serve on a volunteer basis (this Web site is a labor of love, after all), but receive authorship credit, and a bio box on each page that can include links to personal Web sites and social media profiles.  Contributors also retain ownership of his or her own work.

Contributors who are clearly a good fit for the site will be upgraded to Contributing Editors, and will have the ability to post on our Google+ and Facebook pages and moderate comments, as well as receiving an @timeandthe.com forwarding email address.

Above all else, Contributors must abide by our policy on copyright.

If you’re interested, please use the form at the bottom of this post to get in touch.

TV reviews

Reviews of classic Doctor Who, Torchwood, and The Sarah-Jane Adventures television stories.  Doctor Who reviews should be for our “current” or any previous story from the Classic series, or the current episode of the New series.  All reviews should be more than simple synopses of the stories.  What we’re really looking for is honesty and fresh perspectives.

Reviews should typically be between 300 – 1,000 words long.

Expanded Doctor Who universe reviews

We’re especially interested in reviews and essays regarding the expanded Doctor Who universe, including books, audios, comics, short stories, and other media.  This includes Big Finish audios, BBC/AudioGo stories, Target novelizations, the New and Missing Adventures, BBC Past and Eighth Doctor novels, Telos novellas, annuals, Doctor Who Magazine short stories and comics, TV ComicsTV Action comics, Short Trips, Decalog stories, and just about any other expanded universe media.

You must have your own access to these stories.  The administrators of Time and The – ! cannot provide them.

Again, reviews should be between 300 – 1,000 words long as a general rule.

Essays

We’re also seeking original essays relating to interesting and thought-provoking topics related to Doctor Who and its spin-off media.  Generally, these are longer pieces than reviews or general blog posts, but should be at least 300 words.  (If you have an idea for an essay, please pitch it first to ensure that another contributor isn’t already working on something similar.)

Opinion pieces

Along the same lines as essays, opinion pieces voice an interesting and compelling perspective.  If you’re writing about something negative, we do ask that you try to find a positive to balance it out.  Opinion pieces, again, should run at least 300 words long.

Blog posts

General blog posts on any relevant topic.

Merchandise reviews

DVDs/Blu-rays, toys, games, etc. that don’t necessarily fall into the expanded universe category.

Doctor Who news

We are no longer actively publishing Doctor Who news, as other sites have that covered pretty well.

He launched Time and The – ! in 2011 after having the bright (?) idea to watch every Doctor Who story from the beginning and blog about it. (Yeah, he's way behind.)
