"I thought we'd been getting progressively whimsical with the interior of the TARDIS," Moffat said at a screening of the episode last night (December 19).

"I started to think, 'Well, why is that? It's not a magical place. It's actually a machine'. And actually potentially, as you'll see more spectacularly later, quite a scary place sometimes. We make a lot of use of that."

Daniel is the owner and Managing Editor of Time and The – !. He's been a fan of Doctor Who since watching Tom Baker regenerate into Peter Davison on his local PBS station as a kid. He launched Time and The – ! in 2011 after having the bright (?) idea to watch every Doctor Who story from the beginning and blog about it. (Yeah, he's way behind.)

I have always held a great fascination with the Doctors mistress the TARDIS. What a great and wonderous machine(?) To have the interior so much more vast than the exterior…the possibilities. 🙂

Jesus, have you seen the classic series story, The Edge of Destruction?  It's where the Doctor first realizes that there might be more to the TARDIS than meets the eye:

There's a lot more in the novelization of that story, too, if you can get your hands on it.

Oh cool—I'm from Chicago, too, and we recently moved to Denver a few months ago.  (Although, I'm ready to move back home, haha.)

Merry Christmas to you, too, Jesus.

Well I think the Tardis is meant to be whimsical too.  It's a time machine so it's different from anything else.  I just love the "orangey" colored interior a lot.  It's my favorite interior.  I still don't like the new one.
